He has an enormous record of service and he will use his experience and knowledge as a rider and coach for the Dutch show jumping sport. Beautiful memory
For Jos, 1994 is by far the best memory of The Dutch Masters when he won the World Cup final with the stallion Libero H. Everyone can still remember that bizarre jump with the finish line in sight. "It was an indescribable feeling, I was allowed to make two mistakes and had luck on my side. My horse really gave it his all those three days, it was unbelievable," Jos remembers. "That year they had built extra high grandstands and it was packed to the rafters with people, that gave it a unique atmosphere. Winning in front of your own audience is so special."
According to Jos, The Dutch Masters has also always moved with the times. "The Dutch Masters used to be the opening event of the World Cup. Even in the days when they rode in the old hall, it was already a great entourage. It has only gotten better, which is really thanks to the organisers. It has a great atmosphere and everything is arranged down to the last detail."
Jos as national coach
"I like it very much! I have had some observation competitions and personal conversations with the riders and we have made the planning for the coming outdoor season. But we can talk all we want, in the end it's the result that counts.
When they asked Jos for this position he immediately said no, again the second and third time. "I first wanted to know if the riders supported it. That turned out to be the case, so I finally gave in. It was not that I did not want to do it, because I did not like the job, but I already had a lot of work and other riders that I accompany," says Jos. The condition was that he would get an assistant and this was found in Peter van der Waai.
Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping
"Of course I hope that a Dutch combination will win, I know they are all very motivated to win. They want to perform well at The Dutch Masters anyway, so we are going to see great sport in any case. The Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping is a great concept that they love to participate in. These are the best events in the world, which guarantees a top-class field of participants. We are lucky to have sponsors like Rolex, they only want the best of the best.
